A Clinical Sister at Southern Area Hospice Services, will lace up her trainers and join thousands of women at the Dublin Women’s Mini Marathon on June 1 — not just to run, but to honour the patients and families she cares for every day.
Orlagh Loftus is taking on the 10km challenge as a sponsored run to raise vital funds for the Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care to individuals across the Armagh, Down and Tyrone Area. Her motivation is deeply personal.
“This walk is in honour of the patients and families we support every day with comfort, dignity and care during their most difficult times,” said Orlagh.
“Over the last eight years working for the Hospice I have seen firsthand how much this service means to people, and I want to do my part to make sure that care continues.”
Southern Area Hospice Services provides specialist palliative care to people with complex, life-limiting conditions.
The service is offered free of charge, but behind the scenes, the cost of delivering that care continues to rise.
In 2025, it is expected to cost around £6 million to keep the service running — £4 million of which must be raised through fundraising efforts. That’s approximately £11,000 every day.
The Dublin Women’s Mini Marathon is one of the largest all-female events of its kind in the world, attracting participants of all ages and backgrounds.
For the women running in support of Southern Area Hospice, it’s about more than crossing the finish line—it’s about standing together for those who cannot.
Members of the public are invited to sponsor Orlagh and help make every step count.
