An inspirational young Newry man who lost both his legs as a 15-year-old more than 10 years ago as a result of a ruptured aortic aneurism has undergone emergency heart surgery after taking ill on Thursday.
Ryan Cinnamond, who has inspired so many around him with his courage and passion over the last decade, suffered another major setback in his life this week.
The 26-year-old underwent major heart surgery in the Royal in Belfast last night; his family have asked for prayers and support, with the next 24-48 hours critical to his survival.
Messages of support have poured in for Ryan, a hugely popular figure across the district.
Thomas Davis GAA Corrinshego, where Ryan is a member, commented: “All at our Thomas Davis family want you to keep our own Ryan Cinnamond in your thoughts tonight. Ryan is an inspiration to us all in life and unfortunately took ill today. His family have informed us that he has just finished major heart surgery and the next 24/48 hours are critical for him. We would like all our members and the community to keep him and his family in their thoughts. #Limbitless.”
South Armagh GAA club Belleek posted: “[We] and our local community, want to wish young Ryan Cinnamond all the best in his recovery from his latest setback.
“Ryan who has gone through a lot of hardships over the last couple of years, and came thought them all. A real fighter and an inspirational young man, and there is no doubt he will do again.
“Over the last couple of hours Ryan has come through a major heart operation, the next hours are critical to him. To his parents, John and Peggy and his family you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Come on Ryan, you have done it before and you can do it again.”
Carrickcruppen GAA added: “We would ask all our members and friends to keep Ryan Cinnamond in their thoughts and prayers.
“Ryan is an inspiration to us and unfortunately took ill today. His family have informed us that he has just finished major heart surgery and the next 24/48 hours are critical for him. Ryan is brother to our Senior Ladies Footballer Megan.”
Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy said: “All our thoughts are with our good friend Ryan Cinnamond who has undergone an emergency surgery in the Royal.
“The hours ahead will be of the utmost importance. His family have asked that we all keep him in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time. Fan láidir Ryan, every one of us is behind you.”
SDLP MLA Justin McNulty, wrote: “Thinking about and praying for Ryan Cinnamond. Before now his bravery and positivity in the face of major adversity has been an inspiration to us all. Hope he can pull through his latest battle.
