A man accused of committing robbery whilst in possession of an axe will face Crown Court proceedings later this year.
It was heard that the 44-year-old is alleged to have made off with £500 in cash and mobile phones. He is also accused of assault on the same date.
Desmond Patrick Savage, of Gleann Si, Rostrevor appeared charged with robbery, common assault and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, namely robbery, at Newry Magistrates’ on Wednesday.
As the charges were read out, it was outlined that all of the alleged offences occurred on February 21, of this year.
Savage is alleged to have robbed a named individual of £500 and mobiles phones whilst in possession of an axe.
He is also accused of assaulting another named person on that same date.
Standing in the dock, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Martin Morgan made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Eamonn King said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
Savage was released on continuing bail to appear before Newry Crown Court on November 12.
