A man was arrested after a people carrier, stolen in Dundalk, crashed in the centre of Newry on Thursday evening.
The occupants of the stolen Honda Freed, which came to an abrupt halt after colliding with bollards outside a local business, made off on foot before one person was apprehended a short time later.
A police spokesperson said: “Thanks to quick thinking members of the public, a detailed description of the vehicle occupants were taken and police were alerted. Checks show that the vehicle was stolen in Dundalk.
“Newry response team officers attended and, with assistance from Slieve Gullion Neighbourhood officers, one male was caught up with and arrested on suspicion of numerous motoring offences as well as handling stolen goods.
