A 37 year old man has been charged with assault on police, attempted criminal damage, criminal damage, disorderly behaviour and resisting police.
He is due to appear at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 3.
The charges are in relation to a report of disorderly behaviour at the Mall area of Newry at around 1.50am on Sunday, December 8.
As the male was detained due to being aggressive and abusive to police, the male is reported to have spat at an officer during the incident.
As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
