Man charged following south Armagh ramming incident that injured three officers

A 32-year-old man is to face court today following a ramming incident in south Armagh which resulted in three police officers being injured.

Police had stopped a vehicle being driven erratically in the Flagstaff Road area of Cloughoge in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The vehicle briefly stopped, but then proceeded to repeatedly ram two police patrol vehicles causing injuries to three police officers, one of whom required treatment in hospital.

Two men were arrested at the scene.

Police have charged one of the men with a number of offences including attempting to cause grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol in breath.

He is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court today, January 6.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A 30-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, has been released on bail to allow for further questioning by police.
