A Newry man has been fined £200 after two Xanax tablets were found outside his front door.
Stephen McKay, 32, of Arthur Street, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class C drug at the city’s Magistrates’ Court.
Court heard that on January 9, police received a report of two Xanax tablets being found outside the defendant’s flat in Kilmorey House in Newry.
When interviewed, McKay made full admissions that the drugs belonged to him.
Deputy District Judge Liam McStay made it known that the defendant had been given a monetary penalty for a similar offence subsequent to this incident.
Defence barrister Kevin O’Hare stated: “Mr McKay is now back living with his parents in Warrenpoint.
“He is well aware that he is building up a record for these sort of offences and has been advised that the court’s patience will run thin if he continues.”
Deputy District Judge McStay said: “The other offence occurred before this detection, you had been given a warning but you had not been before the court.”
McKay was ordered to pay a fine of £200, along with an offender’s levy of £15.
