Man forced to walk to ATM at knifepoint before being robbed in Newry

A man was forced to walk to an ATM at knifepoint in Newry before being robbed.

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses fto come forward following the incident in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

Detective Sergeant Johnston, said: “Shortly after 1am this morning, Saturday 5th July, a man was approached by another unknown man in the Merchants Quay area.

“The suspect was armed with a knife, wearing dark clothing, and demanded money from the man, forcing him walk to an ATM close by.

“The victim was able to make off from the suspect, however, his bank card was taken during the robbery.

“Thankfully, the victim is unharmed but understandably, is left shaken by this.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, or anyone with CCTV, dash-cam or mobile phone footage, or who saw the suspect matching the description, to call police on 101, quoting reference number 154 05/07/25.”
