A man who was walking home from a night out in Newry was left with a broken jaw and missing teeth following a “savage” and unprovoked attack.
The man, who was walking along the Camlough Road at around 2am on Sunday, was set upon by a group of young men.
Police are appealing for information.
A spokesperson said: “At around 2am, it was reported that a man in his 30’s was walking in the area when he was assaulted by a group of young males.
“He was punched to the ground and then kicked and punched during the assault. He was taken to hospital for his injuries and treated for a broken jaw following the incident.”
Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and police would appeal to anyone with any information or dashcam, to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 885 18/07/21.

Independent Newry Councillor Gavin Malone said the husband of a very good friend of his was the victim of “a brutal and savage unprovoked attack on the Camlough Road as he made his way home after an evening out”.
“He has a broken jaw and a number of teeth knocked out and is currently on his way to the Ulster Hospital for treatment,” he added.
“I have been asked to highlight this and would appeal to those responsible to desist from these activities before someone is killed. I wish this man a speedy recovery.”
