A Banbridge man accused of assaulting and falsely imprisoning a woman has been released on a bail.
Prosecution told court that the statements made “grim reading”, but given the 20-year-old’s lack of record there was no objection to bail with stringent conditions.
Ryan Stewart, of Chestnut Place, appeared charged with common assault, threats to kill, false imprisonment and attempting to choke with intent to commit actual bodily harm at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
It was heard the offences were alleged to have occurred on July 20 and all referred to the same female.
A constable told the court they believed they could connect accused to the charges.
Prosecution stated: “On the face of it the statements make grim reading to what is alleged to have occurred. This was an extreme domestic incident.
“However, this defendant has no record and subject to stringent conditions there are no objections to bail as this will have to be taken for four weeks.”
Stewart was released on his own bail of £250, with conditions including; a curfew between 11pm and 6am, a ban on alcohol, he is to have no contact with the alleged injured party and is not to enter the city of Newry except for attending court.
He is to appear again before Banbridge Magistrates’, sitting at Newry, on August 15.
