A Newry man must wait to learn his fate for number of offences which occurred in Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.
The 42-year-old’s barrister told court: “There were concerns around this defendant’s mental health around May and June, when these offences occurred.”
Paul Brendan Manning, of Altmore Gardens, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage, disorderly behaviour and resisting police at the City’s Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Upon entering the plea, Defence barrister Conor Byrne stated: “All these offences occurred in Daisy Hill Hospital and we are aware of the court’s zero tolerance to offences committed there. The defendant is also in breach of a suspended sentence.
“There were concerns around this defendant’s mental health around May and June, when these offences occurred.”
He added: “The criminal damage was a case of his striking his head into a wall or partition wall at the hospital after he had been involved in an attack earlier in the day.
“This has all led to a revaluation of his medication and I feel that this will warrant a pre-sentence report.”
District Judge Eamonn King agreed, commenting: “He is on the cusp of a custodial sentence.”
The case was adjourned until November 13 for sentencing.
