A Newry man has appeared in court for a litany of offences including possession of a pointed article, namely a skewer, at a kebab shop in the city.
The 45-year-old was released on bail after he was charged with the offences, one condition of this being that he was prohibited from entering the Kebab House on Sugar Island.
Christopher John Stewart, of Sandys Street, was charged with threats to kill, common assault, two counts of criminal damage and possession of a pointed article in a public place at Newry Magistrates’, sitting at Lisburn.
Appearing via videolink from police custody, the defendant confirmed he understood the charges against him and was connected to them by a constable.
As the charges were read, it was heard that all of the alleged offences occurred on June 26.
Stewart is accused of making threats to kill and assaulting a named female.
The criminal damage accusations relate to menus at Kebab House on Sugar Island and a police vehicle.
The defendant is also alleged to have been in possession of a pointed article, namely a skewer, whilst inside the same kebab shop.
Defence solicitor John Rocks made no questions to the connection of his client.
Bail was agreed by police with certain conditions in place, these included; a curfew between 10pm and 8am, he is to have no contact with the alleged injured parties and is excluded from entering the Kebab House on Sugar Island.
Stewart was released on his own bail of £500 and his case was adjourned to July 22.
