Men armed with hatchet in daylight robbery at Newry shop

A number of men armed with a hatched has robbed a shop in Newry this afternoon (Wednesday).

The incident took place on the Killeavy Road at around 4.30pm.

The robbers, armed with a hatchet, went into the shop and demanded money, according to the PSNI.

They were described as wearing cream and dark coloured coats and had their faces covered by masks.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting serial 950.

Earlier this year a man armed with a knife entered premises before running off with a sum of cash.

The member of staff was not injured, however they were left very badly shaken.

And a similar incident happened at the same shop a month later, however, there police have made no connection between those and this latest incident.
