A mother and young daughter were left “shocked and very distressed” following an attack on their home on Friday night.
This is the latest act of vandalism in the wider Barcroft area of Newry, coming days after a number of businesses nearby were attacked by mindless thugs.
Independent Councillor Gavin Malone paid a visit to the victims of this latest incident in Barcroft earlier today (Saturday).
“I’ve just left the home of a lady in Barcroft who had her front door destroyed last night with paint,” Councillor Malone explained.
“This lady, who has a young daughter, is in shock and very distressed about this incident.
“This lady is hugely respected in our area and our community has rallied around today to support her. Absolutely disgraceful.”
Earlier this week Maura McCourt’s bakery in Ballybot had its window smashed – an attack widely condemned by community represents.
It was one of a number of businesses targeted, with others in the Cornmarket picking up the pieces – quite literally.
Speaking on Wednesday, Councillor Malone described the behaviour as “an attack on our whole community”.
