Mother and daughters’ Croke Park abseil challenge in aid of Evora Hospice Care

Evora Hospice is taking part in the Croke Park Abseil today (Thursday).

As Evora Hospice Care (formerly Southern Area Hospice) marks its 35th year of providing compassionate, specialist palliative care, one of its own team members is taking fundraising to new heights.

Eileen, a dedicated nurse with the hospice, will abseil from the rooftop of Croke Park Stadium, alongside her mother Fionnuala and sister Christina, in aid of the hospice’s vital services.

Formerly known as Southern Area Hospice Services, Evora Hospice Care recently adopted a new name to reflect its continued mission and evolving vision, while maintaining the same trusted care and deep community connection it has delivered for over three decades.

“As a nurse with the hospice, I see every day how vital these services are for patients and families facing the toughest of times,” said Eileen. “Taking on this challenge with my mum and sister is our way of giving back to a place that means so much to us and to so many others.”

The family will proudly complete the descent in their St. Bronagh’s GAA Club jerseys, celebrating the community that supports them and the hospice alike.

At the recent senior men’s match between Rostrevor and Longstone on 27th June 2025, St. Bronagh’s GAA club raised an impressive £1,313.64 at the gate. This generous contribution is deeply appreciated and will go directly towards supporting the ongoing fundraising efforts led by Eileen, Fionnuala, and Christina.

“We’re honoured to represent the hospice during this exciting event and hope our efforts inspire others to support this incredible organisation,” Eileen added.

Funds raised will directly support Evora Hospice Care’s work, including in-patient and home-based care, family support, and bereavement services across counties of Armagh, Down and Tyrone’
