An application has been submitted for the change of use of a retail unit in Newry into a new medical clinic.
The proposals were submitted to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council under the name of Dr Emma Cunningham of Aethera Clinic Ltd.
Dr Cunningham is also listed as the Director of Dr Emma Clinics Ltd – a doctor-led aesthetic care company – also based in Newry.
The company website indicates that aside from their specialised aesthetics treatments, the existing clinic also provides GP Specialist consultations, weight loss management clinics, women’s health, men’s health and menopause clinics.
Plans relate to 6 Downshire Close which lays within a complex directly adjacent to the Tesco Extra on the Downshire Road.
If approved, the existing open-plan retail unit would be internally reconfigured to provide a reception area which would lead through to several newly developed rooms including a consultation room, two treatment rooms, minor operations room and day spa.
There would also be provision for stores and staff areas.
Externally, the building would remain unaltered and, as six existing spaces have been indicated for visitors, no additional parking would be provided.
There would also be no extension to the existing footprint of the premises.
The application is due to be advertised shortly.
