Newry man admits possession of indecent and prohibited images of children

He was released on continuing bail and is due to be sentenced in September

Craigavon Magistrates Court

A Newry man who admitted to possession of indecent and prohibited images of children will be sentenced later this year.

Conor Meegan, of Glenveagh, pleaded guilty to possessing an indecent photo of a child, two counts of possessing a prohibited photo of a child and a single count of possessing an extreme pornographic image on May 3, 2022.

The 20-year-old had originally faced further charges of possessing an indecent photo of a child but they are no longer being proceeded with.

Meegan was set for trial on November 4 having denied the charges but was re-arraigned at Craigavon Crown Court on Monday.

None of the facts surrounding the offences were heard in court on this occasion.

He will be sentenced on September 18.

His Honour Judge Ramsey KC released Meegan on continuing bail in the meantime.
