Councillor Savage said: “As Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council I extend my deep sympathies to the Royal Family following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“My thoughts and prayers are with them, and I am aware that many of our residents will also be reflecting today on this sad occasion.

“The Queen’s devotion to public service throughout her long life is renowned across the world, and at home her role in building community relations and dedication to the Peace Process is appreciated by many people throughout these islands.

“At such a significant time it is important to allow our residents the opportunity to pay their own tributes. I am therefore opening Books of Condolences at locations across the district, as well as opening a Book of Condolence online.”

All messages in the online book will be recorded by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and sent directly to the Royal family.
