One person taken to hospital following fire in Newry

Dominic Street fire in Newry

One person has been taken to hospital following a fire at a house in Newry this afternoon (Tuesday).

Emergency services were called to the scene of the blaze in the Dominic Street area of the city shortly before 3pm.

Two fire crews from Newry and one from Warrenpoint Fire Station attended the incident.

It is understood the fire happened at the exterior of a property.

A NIFRS spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a shed on fire at Dominic Street, Newry. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets and one covering jet to extinguish the fire.

“One casualty was transferred to the care of NIAS. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and the incident was dealt with by 4.17pm.”
