Newry, Mourne and Down Council has awarded £874,000 to fund 12 community and sports projects throughout the district.
The funding will support the local delivery of an extensive range of capital build projects, from refurbishment of youth and community clubs to pitch renovations.
This is the fourth year of the financial assistance programme where local voluntary and community groups have applied for funding under the capital theme.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Deputy Chairperson, Councillor Willie Clarke welcomed the funding.
“We as a council are very fortunate to have a thriving community and voluntary sector that helps our district develop into a better place to live and work,” he said.
“Through the enthusiasm, generosity and hard work of our community and voluntary sector, we are reaping the positives for the area, so it comes with great pleasure that we are able to provide these vital funds.”
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chief Executive, Liam Hannaway added: “It is vital that the council continues to provide support and assistance to our community and voluntary sector as they are the glue that holds our communities together.
“We are delighted to be able to provide financial assistance under our capital call that assists our community and voluntary sectors to provide facilities that all our residents can enjoy.”
