Pensioners in Newry are living in fear as youths continue to hurl stones at residents’ homes.
Calls are now being made for the stoning incidents in the Main Avenue area of Derrybeg Park to cease before someone is seriously injured.
Sinn Fein councillor Charlie Casey says he is outraged that calls have even to be made in the first place.
“I am appealing to the young people involved in these stone-throwing incidents to cease immediately before someone is injured,” he said.
“Young people have unfortunately been targeting pensioners’ homes, resulting in windows being smashed and damage caused to window frames.”
He added: “We are approaching the bright evenings and residents are fearful that these acts of vandalism will only get worse if they are not stopped now.
“This is not fun or high jinks. It is wrong that local people are having to live in fear and it is unacceptable that vulnerable people in our community are being singled out for this anti-community activity.”
