Playr-Fit nets £2m Newry HQ investment and 12 new jobs in next growth push

Rapidly growing Newry teamwear brand Playr-Fit has completed a £2 million investment in its new headquarters – and plans to create 12 additional jobs over the next year as it targets further growth across Ireland and Great Britain.

The bespoke sportswear company, founded in 2018 by Kieran Quinn and Steven Burns, currently employs 31 staff and supplies custom teamwear to clubs, schools, colleges, universities, businesses and sporting organisations across both markets.

The Newry building was purchased in early 2025 and has since undergone extensive renovation and redevelopment to support what the company describes as its “next phase of growth”.

Co-owner and director Kieran Quinn said the investment was about much more than simply upgrading premises.

“Our ambition was not simply to create a new home for the company’s current operations, but to develop a headquarters capable of supporting the wider Playr-Fit business as we continue to grow,” he said.

“This £2 million investment is a clear statement of our belief in the potential for Playr-Fit to expand to meet growing market demand. It gives us the capacity to operate at a much larger scale, enter new markets and accelerate our growth across Ireland and Great Britain.

“We’ve made a significant investment in the building, technology and facilities, but at its heart, this is an investment in our people. It is about giving our team the environment, tools and support they need to do their best work and drive Playr-Fit forward.”

Over the next 12 months, Playr-Fit plans to recruit 12 new staff across a mix of Newry-based support roles, remote and field-based sales developer posts, and positions linked to its planned expansion in Great Britain. Recruitment will begin in the coming months, with further details to be announced as roles go live.

The new headquarters brings the company’s operational, design, customer sample, fulfilment and staff welfare functions under one roof. The ground floor includes a customer sample and consultation area – where clubs, schools and organisations can view garments, fabrics and product options by appointment – alongside an expanded operational zone for stock handling, order processing, packing and fulfilment.

Playr-Fit co-owners and directors Steven Burns and Kieran Quinn are joined by family members and special guests to mark the official opening of the company’s new headquarters.

For fellow co-owner and director Steven Burns, staff wellbeing was central to the project.

“At Playr-Fit, we want to create more than jobs; we want to build a workplace where people feel valued and can thrive,” he said.

“Our investment in staff welfare areas, canteen space and modern working facilities is about supporting the people who drive the business every day, while ensuring colleagues across the wider Playr-Fit team feel equally valued and connected, wherever they are based.”
