Police issue update in search for missing Newry man as concerns mount

Shane McEvoy

Police have issued an updated appeal for information on the whereabouts of 38-year-old Newry man, Shane McEvoy, as concerns grow for his welfare.

Shane was originally reported as last being seen around 5pm on Friday, March 13, in the Old Dublin Road area of the city. However, officers have now updated that information.

Police say they now believe Shane was last seen later that evening, between approximately 9pm and 9.30pm, in the vicinity of Thompson’s yard, close to the Circle K service station near junction 20 in the Republic of Ireland.

At that time he was believed to be wearing a dark-coloured top and dark jeans. He also appeared to be walking with a limp and may be injured.

It is not known whether Shane has remained in the Republic or returned to Northern Ireland, but due to the close proximity to the border, officers are appealing to anyone on either side who may have seen him, or who has any information, to come forward.

Family and friends have not heard from him since Friday.

Anyone who knows Shane, believes they may have seen him, or has any information about where he might be is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 677 of 16/03/26.
