Police have said they are treating an incident of criminal damage as a hate crime after eggs were thrown at a property in Poyntzpass at the weekend.
An investigation has been launched into the incident, which took place after midnight on Sunday, September 24, in the Brannock Meadows area of the village.
Police received a report that eggs had been thrown at the window of a house and in the direction of a parked vehicle. However, no damage was caused.
Speaking to Armagh I today (Wednesday), a resident of Brannock Meadows says that the attack, which he says was carried out against a local Polish family, had left the community “very upset”.
He said: “We don’t want people bringing racism into this estate…. We don’t want racism in Poyntzpass. I don’t want my kids to see that behaviour.”
He also called for further police patrols in the village, while commending current police efforts in tackling this kind of behaviour.
“The police have been very good and very visible,” he said.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Anyone who witnessed this criminal damage, which is being treated as a hate crime, or has any information, is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 586 25/09/23.”
