Europe’s third Habitat ReStore – which helps families improve their homes at low-cost and provide volunteering and training opportunities for local people – will open in Newry this Saturday.

It was in April that Armagh I first revealed plans for the development by the charity Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland.

And now it has confirmed the official opening of the store.

Everyone is invited to the launch celebration at 10am on Saturday, September 8.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council chairperson Mark Murnin will cut the ribbon to officially open the low-cost DIY store.

Habitat ReStore is a social enterprise which sells donated new and used building and home improvement material.

The shop and donation centre are open Tuesday to Saturday at 113 Dublin Road, Newry, beside Supervalu.

Since opening six years ago in Lisburn and two years ago in Ballymena, Habitat ReStore has delivered real impacts for local people and the wider community helping thousands of families improve their homes at low cost.

ReStore also provides volunteering and learning opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities, improving wellbeing, and it diverts tons of reusable material from landfill, protecting the environment.

Habitat NI chief executive Jenny Williams said: “We are delighted to open Habitat ReStore in Newry and so much appreciate all the local support which has helped to make it possible.

“ReStore is a unique workplace which engages people of all ages and backgrounds in serving the wider community.

“Everything we sell is donated so support from companies, organisations and individuals is critical to the success of ReStore – you can see in store that we have a wide range of stock at low cost.

“ReStore Manager Stuart Morrison and the team are looking forward to welcoming customers, volunteers and to building partnerships which will provide donations.”
