A rucksack containing suspected Class B drugs and paraphernalia was found at football pitch in Burren – outside Newry – earlier on Saturday.
The black bag was found in a dugout at Jimmy McAlinden Park – home of Milburn United – by a member of the public.
Independent Councillor Mark Gibbons said he is grateful it was found by the right person, who alerted the authorities immediately.
“Thank you to the local residents who alerted me to a sports bag that was left at the pitch of Millburn Utd,” he explained.
“The bag contained what looked like Class B drugs with weighing equipment and harmful accessories.
“The PSNI have been on site and have taken the bag away safely.
“Once again I would like to thank local people for taking the right action and alerting myself and PSNI right away. A job well done folks.”
