Shots were fired at a property in Newry last night (Wednesday).

There are reports that up seven shots were fired in quick succession at the ground floor window of the property in the Barcroft Park area of the city.

The incident happened around 11.30pm.

Images from the scene show several bullet holes in a window of what appears to be a living room.

Four adults managed to escape the house without injury, which was described as a “miracle”.

Newry & Armagh Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady said: “There are reports of a shooting incident occurring in the Barcroft area. Details of the circumstances are unclear at present but there are suggestions a house was targeted.

“This appears to be a reckless attack and must be condemned by all.

“Anyone with information about this criminal attack should bring it forward to the police.”

Newry & Armagh DUP MLA William Irwin added: “This is a very concerning incident where shots have been fired at a home with residents in the house at the time.

“Fortunately, no one has been injured in this serious attack and I would appeal for local people who may have witnessed this shooting or any suspicious activity in the area at the time to contact the PSNI immediately and assist with their inquiries.

“It is vital those behind this sinister and dangerous attack are apprehended as soon as possible.”

SDLP MLA Justin McNulty said the “reckless attacks like these are wholly unjustified and have no place in our society.”

Adding: “It is a miracle that the four adults in the house escaped injury.

“The people of Barcroft Park are shocked by this incident and deeply concerned this has happened in their community.

“Those responsible must be taken of our streets and I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact the PSNI in Newry on 101 or the Crimestoppers Number on 0800 555 111.”
