Six burglaries in south Armagh and Newry areas over weekend linked

Detectives in Newry are appealing for information following six potentially linked reports of thefts, burglaries and attempted burglaries over the weekend.

Detective Sergeant Lewis said: “We received a report of a burglary in the Old Road area of Dromintee, where cash was stolen from an outbuilding. We believe this may have occurred sometime between 4.30pm on Friday, 8th November and 8.50am on Saturday, 9th November.

“We then received a report of a number of tools reportedly taken from two vans in the Ballynamona Road area of Newry. We believe this may have occurred sometime between 10pm on Friday and 8am on Saturday.

“We are also investigating another report of theft of tools taken from a garage in the Carrickbroad Road area, believed to have taken place between 8pm on Friday and 8am on Saturday.”

Detective Sergeant Lewis continued: “Police then received two reports of two males acting suspiciously at two address in the Ballynamona Road area, between 3.30am and 4am on Saturday morning.

“Another report was received that a shed had been rummaged through in the Old Road area of Drumintee, sometime between 1.30am and 7.30pm on Saturday. It is not known if anything was taken at this time.

“At this stage, we are treating these reports as linked and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in these areas or who may have information that could help with our enquiries, to get in touch with police on 101, quoting reference number 921 of 09/11/24.”
