Residents in south Armagh will see their rates bill increase by 2.66 percent.
The rate was struck at a meeting of council this evening.
It’s a marked increase on last year’s rise of 1.94 percent.
The increase is expected to cover the cost of the public services, including a range of environmental services such as refuse collection and street cleansing, economic regeneration, the provision of leisure and community facilities, as well as Planning.
Councillor Michael Ruane, group leader for Sinn Fein on Newry, Mourne and Down Council, said: “The Council has worked collaboratively to ensure we were able to agree the striking of a 2.66 rate rise.
“Sinn Féin believe it is incumbent on all parties to work together for the benefit of the ratepayers and local businesses particularly in these continued challenging times.
“Sinn Féin elected representatives are committed to ensuring efficient and effective service delivery to a best practice standard in order to guarantee true value for money.”
