Newry singing sensation Sophie Lennon is set to appear on America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night.
The 14 year-old, from Mayobridge, previously represented Ireland in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, finishing fourth with 150 points – the highest Ireland had ever received in the junior competition.
Sophie also auditioned for Series 15 and Series 17 of Britain’s Got Talent and appeared on RTE’s Late Late Toy Show.
Now, the teenager is set to wow American audiences on one of the country’s biggest talent shows – and she’ll be the first ever from Northern Ireland to do so.
Posting on social media, Sophie wrote: “OMGGGG! I can’t believe I’m actually writing this post but I can finally share with you all after keeping it secret for soo long that I’m going to be on this season of ‘AMERICA’S GOT TALENT’ it’s been an absolutely CRAZYY whirlwind 6 months.
“Shocked that I was scouted for back in February and flown out by AGT all the way to Los Angeles from Ireland, all expenses paid, along with my mum and dad for all the filming which took place over three days! My episode will be aired across America and worldwide on NBC & Peacock TV this TUESDAY NIGHT 23RD JULY for their final show this year! I’m still pinching myself with what all is happening lately, I’ve always dreamed of being on AGT from I was little, watching all their YouTube videos and I just can’t believe my dream has come true.”
Sophie spoke of her honour at being “the first person ever from Northern Ireland to be chosen to perform on the biggest talent show in the world”
“I still can’t believe it,” she wrote. “What an experience it’s been so far and I can’t wait to share my journey with you all.
“Thank you all so so much for your continued support to me throughout everything it means the world to me! Stay tuned for lots more to come. Thank you to my fantastic teacher Fiona Flynn for being an amazing and supportive teacher to me.”
