
Tributes have been paid to an “unforgettable” young Newry dad-of-two following his sudden passing on Tuesday.
Edward ‘Eddie’ Magill, of Cochran Road, has been described as the devoted daddy of Ruby and Ryan, cherished son of Pat and Ethna, and much-loved brother of Patrick, Ciaran, and Bernadette.
Eddie – who was also the beloved partner of Julie – will be missed by her son, Jordan.
His passing has sent shockwaves through the community, with countless tributes describing him as an “unforgettable character” with “a heart of gold”.
His sister Bernadette posted: “To say I am heartbroken is an understatement. Edward, we love you so much and our lives will never be the same.”
St John Bosco GAC Newry, where Eddie was a former player, shared their regret at his passing.
“Eddie was part of our successful U16 County A Championship and Paul McGirr Ulster Championship-winning teams,” they wrote.
“We express our sincere condolences to his mum and dad, brothers and sister, his children, the extended Magill family circle, and Eddie’s many close friends.”
One of those close friends described Eddie as “one of life’s true characters,” expressing her own shock and devastation at the news that emerged on Tuesday afternoon.
Greater Linenhall posted: “It is with a heavy heart and complete disbelief that we extend our deepest sympathies to the Magill and Fearon families and to anyone who had the honour to know and love Edward. He was one of life’s unforgettable characters. May he rest in eternal peace.”
St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Newry, wrote: “St Joseph’s school community are saddened to hear the news regarding the passing of our past pupil Eddie Magill. We send our sincere condolences to our colleague Mrs Ethna Magill and her family on the passing of her son, Eddie. May he rest in peace.”
Eddie’s remains will repose at his late residence, 5 Cochran Road, Newry, from 6pm on Wednesday.
The funeral will take place on Friday, leaving at 9.30am for 10.30am Requiem Mass in SS Patrick & Colman’s Cathedral, Newry. Burial will follow in Monkshill Cemetery.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his heartbroken parents, brothers, sister, brother-in-law Keith, sister-in-law Áine, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his many friends.
