A community has been plunged into a state of shock and sadness after a week-long search for a missing Co Armagh man ended in tragedy on Sunday.
Ronan Treanor, who was 37, had last been seen by his family at the Camlough Roundabout in Newry on Saturday, July 19.
Searches and a police appeal yielded little until Sunday, July 28, when the search was cancelled following the discovery of Ronan’s body.
Sinn Féin Councillor Declan Murphy has expressed profound sadness following the sudden passing of the Camlough man.
“I am deeply saddened at the loss of Ronan Treanor. My thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this devastating time.
“I want to sincerely thank first responders and the local community who rallied together in recent days.
“In the days ahead, I know our community will continue to stand with and support the Treanor family through their grief.”
Councillor Murphy continued:
“Ronan will be sorely missed – he was a great lad and will never be forgotten.”
Many others have paid tribute to “a true gentleman” who was so highly thought of by many who knew and loved him.
“Our hearts are broken for all who knew him – he was a gentle giant at heart,” wrote one person. “We will meet him again someday. He is now truly free and with Jesus.”
Others have spoken of their shock and heartbreak for a man who “will always have a very special place in our hearts”.
Funeral details are expected to be announced in due course.
May he rest in peace.
