Two men who are accused of possession of Class A with intent to supply, among other drugs offences, will face Crown Court proceedings later this year.
Both appeared at Newry Magistrates’ Court for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
Paulis Alencikas, 28, of Glencairne in Dungannon, is charged with possession of Class A with intent to supply, possession of Class B with intent to supply, possession of Class B, possession of Class A and being concerned in the supply of Class B.
Meanwhile, Dovydas Vansauskas, 37, of Gortmerron View in Dungannon, faces one charge of possession of Class A with intent to supply and one of possession of Class A.
As these charges were read, it was heard that the offences are alleged to have occurred between December 6, 2018, and October 31, 2019, with the substances named as cocaine and cannabis.
With Vansauskas appearing in court and Alencikas via videolink from his solicitor’s office, both made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
The legal representatives for both defendants made no contrary submissions.
Deputy District Judge Anne Marshall said that she was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
Alencikas and Vansauskas were released on their own bail of £250 to appear before Newry Crown Court on May 11 for arraignment.
