Two men arrested by Organised Crime officers in Newry

Two men have been arrested in Newry as part of an ongoing drugs investigation, police have confirmed.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Organised Crime Branch, working alongside local officers, carried out the arrests in the Stream Street area of the city.

The two men, aged 36 and 40, were arrested on suspicion of drugs-related offences and remain in police custody at this time.

Police said the arrests form part of an ongoing investigation and enquiries are continuing.

Detective Sergeant Martin said: “Police are committed to making Northern Ireland a hostile environment for those in our community who are involved in the drugs trade, or anyone tempted to become involved should be under no illusion – we will seek to identify them, arrest them and place them before the courts.

“Police continue to encourage members of the public with concerns about drugs or drug dealing to get in touch and enable us to investigate. The number to call is 101. Alternatively, information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
