Two men have been arrested following a large fire at an industrial unit in Newry in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Emergency services were called to the blaze at a former customs site on Shepherds Way, Newry around 1.30am.
Considerable damage was caused to the building as a result.
The two men – aged 19 and 53 – were arrested in the area a short time later on suspicion of arson.
Both have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to get in touch.
Newry SDLP Councillor Michael Savage has praised fire crews who tackled the blaze.
Newry SDLP councillor Michael Savage said: “Local fire crews are to be commended for their swift response in dealing with this major blaze and their bravery in tackling this serious fire.
“The Newry crews were on the scene within three minutes. Praise must also go to local residents who raised the alarm. The cause has yet to be determined but a full fire investigation team will be carrying out work this morning to determine the cause. I am just thankful that no one was hurt.”
