The burglary was reported to police around 9.10pm that evening.

Detective Constable Middleton said: “We believe the incident took place sometime between 10am and 9.10pm on Wednesday, August 6 and are keen to hear from anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area during that time.

Sinn Féin Councillor Valerie Harte has condemned the burglary, calling it a “shocking and deplorable act”.

“This was a deeply concerning incident that has left local residents feeling anxious and unsafe. I urge anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact the police immediately,” said Cllr Harte.

She also urged the community to look out for one another.

“I would ask everyone to check in on your neighbours, particularly older or vulnerable residents, and to report anything out of the ordinary,” she added.

Cllr Harte confirmed she is liaising with police both on this case and on broader concerns around anti-social and criminal behaviour in the area.

“Sinn Féin will continue working alongside residents, community groups and the police to tackle criminality and anti-social behaviour head-on — and to ensure our communities are safe, supported and protected.”
