A young man enjoying a night out with friends was rushed to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry after being hit over the head with a bottle.
The assault happened shortly after midnight on Friday and police have issued an appeal for witnesses.
They have described the attack – carried out by a female – as an “horrific, unprovoked act of violence”.
The man was treated at Daisy Hill and police added: “The consequences of this assault could have been so much worse but thankfully this young male will make a full recovery.
“We are appealing for anyone that was in the area of The Pier, Warrenpoint and the car parks beside the Pier that can identify the female suspect to please contact police on 101 and quote reference number 63 of 27/05/18.”
