A Newtownhamilton man who was caught driving a car with no wing mirrors has been handed three penalty points.
Rumen Mitev, 33, of Dundalk Street, pleaded guilty to having no mirrors on a motor vehicle and a defective light at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that on June 11, at around 2.30pm, police spotted the defendant driving a vehicle on Union Street, Lurgan, that had a defective brake light.
Closer inspection showed that there were also no wing mirrors on the vehicle.
Mitev handed police a Bulgarian licence and so a fixed penalty could not be issued.
Defence solicitor Philip Reid stated that the defendant was aware that his wing mirrors were broken and had ordered replacements online.
He added that Mitev had not known about the defective light until his attention was brought to it by police.
Mr Reid said that the defendant had since sold the vehicle and was the sole earner for his partner and two young children.
District Judge Bernie Kelly asked: “How are you supposed to reverse or how are you meant to overtake without wing mirrors?”
Mitev was handed three penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £150, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
