A young farmer has had three penalty points endorsed on his licence after driving through a red light in full sight of police with six passengers in his car.
The 20-year-old from Skerriff Road, Newtownhamilton, pleaded guilty at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court to breaching a traffic light and using a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
The incident occurred on November 22, last year, when police on patrol on the Castlewellan Road, Banbridge, saw a Volkswagen Golf being driven in the opposite direction go through a red light.
Officers stopped the defendant on the Dromore Road to find the vehicle was carrying six passengers.
The defendant was cautioned by police and during a notebook interview gave full admissions.
Defence counsel stated the defendant was a farmer, who lived with his parents and had no previous record.
He said his client apologised to the court for his actions on that day.
District Judge Bernie Kelly imposed three penalty points on defendant’s icence and ordered him to pay a fine of £150, along with the £15 offender’s levy, within 10 weeks.
