Work to begin on £250,000 resurfacing scheme in Newtownhamilton

Dundalk Road, Newtownhamilton

Work is due to begin next week on a major £250,000 resurfacing scheme in Newtownhamilton next week.

Crews will roll in to begin the Dundalk Road scheme next Monday, February 10 and will be in place until completion which is planned for March 14.

The improvement works will include resurfacing a 1.3km stretch of road from a point 200m south of Blaney Road, to Cullyhanna Road.

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said: “I have made clear my intent to tackle the regional imbalance in infrastructure.

“I want any investment in road maintenance to reflect the need across our entire network.

“I am pleased to announce this £250,000 investment in the Newtownhamilton area.

“The work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network and will better connect people of the area across the border with County Louth for many years to come, enhancing north-south travel, which will benefit our communities and business.

“We are working with our stakeholders to co-ordinate these essential roadworks and are publishing details in advance to help people plan alternative routes and manage disruption.”

To help ensure the safety of those using the road, it will be necessary to operate a daily weekday road closure (Monday – Friday) between the hours of 8am and 5pm from Monday, February 10 until Saturday, March 14.

Access will be as per the signed diversion routes.

The road will be open to traffic in the evenings during the week and all day Saturday and Sunday.

The Department has programmed the work and traffic management arrangements to minimise any inconvenience, however, drivers should expect some delays and are advised to leave additional time when planning journeys.
