Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge will be closed for the foreseeable future after vandals attacked it overnight.
And with the two hottest days of the year upon us later this week, thousands will miss out on visiting one of the country’s national treasures.
Thousands will flock to the north coast as temperatures soar into the mid-twenties.
However, the famous rope bridge in Ballintoy will be unavailable following the senseless attack overnight on Tuesday.
The bridge’s official Facebook page posted: Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge will be closed today and for the foreseeable future due to an act of vandalism overnight.
“The National Trust is currently working with structural engineers to assess the level of damage as safety of visitors and staff is of utmost importance.
“Further updates will follow.”
The area is exceptional in natural beauty with stunning views of Rathlin Island and Scotland and is designated an Area of Special Scientific Interest for its unique geology.
The bridge attracts more than 250,000 visitors each year.
