There were 22 further Covid-related deaths reported by the Department of Health today (Friday).
Today’s stats – according to the official dashboard – take in the last 24 hours with 18 of the 22 passing away inside that period.
The overall total number of deaths recorded by the Department now stands at 1,814.
The ABC Borough accounts for 226 – up five – deaths; NMD 132 – up 8; and Mid-Ulster with 159 – up one.
There were a further 669 positive cases reported in the last 24 hours, with 155 in Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon – still the highest in NI – and a further 61 in Newry, Mourne and Down. There were 96 cases in Mid Ulster.
A total of 3,506 individuals were tested.
There are 745 people now in hospital as a result of the virus, 67 of whom are in intensive care units.
There are currently 39 ICU beds available in Northern Ireland.
A total of 190 Covid patients are currently in hospitals in the Southern Trust area; 127 in Craigavon; 38 in Daisy Hill; 25 in Lurgan and none in South Tyrone.
Earlier today, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency stated that January 17 “saw the highest number of Covid-19 related deaths occurring in any one day since – 34 – the start of the pandemic.
The Agency says that the latest weekly toll for deaths linked to the virus is 150 – the second highest weekly number since the pandemic began.
The weekly figure, the Agency adds, is lower only than last week when 156 deaths were reported for the seven day period ending January 15.
The total number of Covid-19 related deaths that occurred up to January 22 has now reached 2,355, NISRA says.
