Ombudsman informed as Prison Service confirm death of 24-year-old man

He died in hospital on Friday night after recently being in custody at Maghaberry

A 24-year-old man – recently in custody at Maghaberry Prison – has died in hospital last night (Friday).

The death has been confirmed by the Northern Ireland Prison Service.

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

As with standard procedure, the PSNI and Prisoner Ombudsman have been informed.

Ronnie Armour, Director General of the Northern Ireland Prison Service, said: “I would like to extend my sympathy to the family of the prisoner. My thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
