A Sinn Féin delegation met managing officials of Roads Service this week in Marlborough House, to discuss a number of major works in the area.
The delegation, led by John O’Dowd MLA, raised a number of issues including the completion of Millennium Way in Lurgan and the ongoing works on the Northway in Portadown.
Mr O’Dowd said: “It was a welcome opportunity to meet Mr Richardson (Divisional Manager Roads Service) and we look forward to continuing this engagement with him and his officials over the time ahead.
“Engagement is key for everyone and this is particularly relevant when works are being planned; such as the works to be undertaken in North Street in Lurgan. We impressed upon the Roads Service the need to engage with local traders in the area and to be mindful of the need for effective traffic management.”
He continued: “Millennium Way has for a long period been a major unfinished piece of Road Works in the Lurgan area. It is my understanding that Roads Service are keen to progress the project and more news is expected over the next few months.”
Sinn Féin Cllr Tommy O’Connor was also in attendance.
He said: “We also took the opportunity to highlight our concerns over a number of dangerous junctions in the Borough, including the Meadowbrook crossroads and the crossroads at Laurencetown. Safety must be a priority, particularly in areas like these where there is a recognisable danger.”
Cllr O’Connor referred to the ongoing works on the Northway close to Portadown and added: “We welcomed the progress on works at the Northway in Portadown, but also took the opportunity to impress upon the Roads Service the importance of keeping this road safe particularly in the dark evenings and nights.
“The importance of road lining is not to be underestimated for road workers and motorists.”
