Parents urged to speak to children after ‘anti-social’ incidents

Police in Lurgan are asking for the help of the local community to tackle anti-social behaviour after a number of incidents in the Co Armagh town.

Constable Kevin Crossey, Lurgan NPT, said: “We have received a number of reports of anti-social behaviour in the Shankill area involving youths and we want to ensure this problem does not escalate.

“In the last few weeks the window of a house in Edward Street was broken and the communal door of flats in Edward Street was smashed.

“This is unacceptable behaviour and those behind these incidents are breaking the law.

“We have increased patrols in the area and are investigating to find those responsible. We have also been working with community representatives to identify problem times and areas and discuss ways to resolve these issues.

“I would ask parents to talk to their children and explain the long lasting consequences of getting caught up in this activity and ending up with a criminal convictions. Convictions can hamper your education, travel and employment opportunities.

“A wide variety of people have to live together in one community and a little respect and compromise goes a long way to making a neighbourhood safe for everyone.

“Anyone with concerns or who would like to  work with us to tackle antisocial behaviour can contact us in Lurgan NPT on the 101 number.”
