Pensioner ‘badly shaken’ after weekend crime spreee

AN elderly woman was left badly shaken and taken to hospital for medical observation after her handbag was snatched from her car.

And police in Armagh have tonight (Monday) issued an appeal for public help after a weekend crime spree which, they believe, involves the occupants of a blue Ford Focus car.

Police in Armagh are said they are investigating a series of incidents which took place in the city on Saturday, June 22.

The first happened at around 2.40pm in the Lonsdale Road area, when police received a report that two males had reached inside a parked van and had stolen a mobile phone before making off in a blue Ford Focus.

Occupants from the same vehicle were then reported to have been involved in the attempted theft of a handbag from a woman in the car park of the Spires Retail Park, in the Moy Road area, at around 3pm.

The handbag was taken by the assailants but then dropped following a struggle with the woman. They then made off from the area empty handed in the blue Ford Focus.

At 3.45pm it was reported that an elderly woman had the passenger door of her car opened and her handbag taken as she was parked near Redmond’s Corner in the Tallbridge Road area.

The woman was left very badly shaken and was taken to hospital for medical observation. The culprits were reported to have left the scene in a blue car.

Police would ask anyone who may have noticed a blue coloured Ford Focus car with registration 00MH8517 anywhere in the area of Armagh on Saturday to contact them in Armagh on 0845 600 8000.

Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111
