POLICE do not believe the discovery of pipe bombs at two homes in County Armagh was sectarian.
A device was left at a house in Abercorn Park in Portadown, the other in Laurel Heights in Tandragee, police said.
They were discovered on Friday evening and made safe by Army bomb disposal experts.
Police said they do not suspect any terrorist involvement but are investigating a link to an alleged assault that took place in the village of Laurelvale in June.
Independent Unionist councillor and Laurelvale resident Paul Berry said the local community was shocked to have been targeted.
“This reckless behaviour put the lives of everyone in real danger and young children from the area could have handled this dangerous device and indeed could have been killed if it would have exploded,” he said.
“It is just a few weeks ago that a hoax device was found in the village and I have spoken directly with the local police inspector to raise my concerns and that of the local residents who wish that these culprits are brought to justice for such reckless and life-threatening activities.
“Residents with young children had to be evacuated for over three hours whilst the area was made safe and it was also distressing to see elderly residents being evacuated from their homes as well.
“Local people would like to thank the PSNI officers who acted in a professional manner and assisted the families in evacuating their elderly parents.”
