Planning Service officials are poised to approve a second major anaerobic digestion plant in County Armagh, Armagh I can reveal.
A planning application for the 500kw plant, together with feedstock storage clamp, had been lodged in the name of Kenneth Wallace.
The development has been earmarked for Bessbrook Road, Mountnorris.
Planning Service officials will present an opinion to approve the application when it meets with Newry and Mourne Council on Thursday, December 4.
An anaerobic digester uses organic matter, such as farm crops and animal waste, and converts it for power production and to generate heat.
Yesterday, Sunday, we revealed that a combined heat and power plant in Milford will also be given the go-ahead early next month.
The application, which had met with objection from some local sources, will be approved by DoE Planning Service when it presents its monthly schedule to Armagh City and District Council on Monday, December 1.
The application, which was lodged two years ago, led to residents meeting Armagh Council to put forward their arguments against the proposals.
But Amber Green Energy said at the time that the development would inject new life into the community of Milford, which has a long and proud industrial past, and create new much-needed jobs for the area.
The application is for a major 500kw anaerobic digester plant and a combined heat and power plant. It includes ancillary site works, with access from Hill Street.
It would be sited 155 metres south west of No 61 Hill Street, Milford.
