Fews area Sinn Féin Councillor Roisin Mulgrew has pledged her continued support for the Whitecross community in their quest to secure appropriate traffic calming measures in the locality after a child was injured earlier this week.
The local councillor explained: “At a recent meeting involving Roads Service officials in the vicinity of St Killian’s Park, we discussed amongst other things the need for the refurbishment of the white lines, all road signs and the repairing of damaged kerbs.
“However the key demand by local residents was for a footpath. All agreed that the development of a footpath in that locality would be of great benifit for both pedestrians and motorists. Ultimately this is about the health and well being of all.”
Councillor Mulgrew said the need was now all the more important and expressed her sadness that a young boy had been injured in an incident earlier this week.
“We wish this child a speedy and full recovery,” she added, as she urged both motorists and pedestrians to be extra vigilant.
“There is a determination within this community to ensure that, as best as practicably possible, all that is needed in relation to traffic calming and road safety will be obtained. Ih ave pledged my support for these aims and will work with all to deliver them.”
