PROMISES have been given that concerns over the organisation of Armagh’s Georgian Day celebrations – the official start of the city’s countdown to Christmas – will be ironed out ahead of next year.
Sinn Féin Councillor Cathy Rafferty had raised concerns about the location of stalls at the big event, when up to 20,000 people flocked to the city for a taste of Christmas past.
“Georgian Day in Armagh is a great economic boost to most traders,” said Councillor Rafferty. “But there are still some issues that could be addressed, such as the stalls are very close together, they could be spread out more spaciously, many of the streets are left out of the designated area and, finally, stalls can be set up outside retailers which are selling the same items.”
The Sinn Fein representative confirmed that she had met with Armagh City Centre Management some days after this year’s festival and brought these issues up.
And Councillor Rafferty added: “As a result, I have been assured that these issues are going to be addressed, I welcome this decision as this will greatly improve Georgian Day. I look forward to a successful festival next year.”
